Legal Immigration Family Equity Act (LIFE) of 2000
The Legal Immigration Family Equity Act (also called the LIFE Act) extended Section 245(i) of the 1997 Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). It was signed into law on Dec. 21, 2000 by President Bill Clinton. Specifically this amnesty bill extended the deadline, from which individuals could qualify to adjust their status, under section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The deadline was extended from January 14, 1998 to April 30, 2001. This Amnesty Bill, gave an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens, a green card.
